It marks the spot where, according to legend, Manole fell from the monastery roof; it is free and takes a few minutes, right next to the monastery.
About the place
Legend says that when the church was finished Manole was left on the roof and tried to fly down on wings made of wooden shingles; a spring rose where he fell. The present fountain was built in 1804 under Bishop Iosif, after the old spring inside the monastery walls had dried up and a new one was found outside.
It carries a verse inscription in Cyrillic letters that tells how the spring was found and names Bishop Iosif and the steward Meletie; Nicolae Iorga published it in 1905. The fountain is a listed monument and stands in a small park about 200 m from the monastery.
