It shows objects from the history of the first capital and pieces of the old iconostasis of the Princely Church, rounding off a visit to the Princely Court next door.
About the place
The museum opened in 1969 in a building put up in 1897 as the town hospital, with Neo-Romanian details. Its collections of more than 14,000 items range from the Neolithic, Dacians and Romans to medieval pottery, documents and coins. Among them are a coloured relief of a dragon, presented as Neagoe Basarab's arms, and fragments of the 1750s iconostasis of the Princely Church.
The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 9:00 to 17:00 and closed on Mondays. It also runs the Dumitru Norocea House, the ethnography and folk art section on Victor Ștefănescu Street.
