It is the only church in Rucăr on the national list of historic monuments, in a village that was for centuries a customs post between Wallachia and Transylvania.
About the place
The church was built in 1780 on Strada Mănăstirii, in the Suseni part of the village. It is a masonry church with two towers and a graveyard around it, listed as a historic monument of national importance under code AG-II-m-A-13780.
Rucăr was a customs point on the road between Câmpulung and Brașov: a deed of King Louis I of 1377, linked to the building of Bran Castle, names Rucăr as a place where tolls were collected. The village still has eight old stone crosses listed as monuments, from 1613–1735; the one at La Roghina, from 1614, stands on Strada Brașovului by the DN73.
